DON’T
LITIGATE, MEDIATE!
CHRISTIAN MEDIATION
The Bible is
very clear concerning the methods Christians are to
use to settle problems. Jesus set the agenda for conflict resolution
in Matthew 18:15-20. Paul
also spoke of this same issue in
1 Corinthians
6:1-8.
MEDIATION IS A PROCESS THAT ALLOWS THE PARTIES INVOLVED, TO
REACH A DECISION ACCEPTABLE TO EACH OTHER. THE BIBLE
IS USED AS A GUIDE TO HELP THEM REACH DECISIONS THAT WILL BRING
PEACE TO THEIR HEARTS AND LIVES, AND ULTIMATELY HONOR TO GOD.
Sam Gore is a trained
Christian mediator with International Christian Conciliators. When conflicts between church members,
between staff and members, or between staff persons occur, third
party intervention is always the best method. If you read the
promise Jesus gave in Matthew 18, you can clearly see that “when
done His way, He is with us.” This suggests that if not
done His way, He is not and the results needed to advance His
Kingdom will not occur. People are all around us observing how
we respond when conflict occurs. I don’t think we have
been faithful in this area, and as a result, many people have
left our churches and their complaints have spread within our
communities to a point that people are turned off with the church.
Christian mediation
is also perfect for couples who have come to an impasse in their
marriage.
