Steps for Starting a nonprofit

  1. Download IRS publication 557¾ www.irs.gov/publications/p557/index.html
  2. Articles of Incorporation (Sectary of State).
  3. EIN number Form SS4¾¾ www.irs.gov
  4. Select and Develop a Board of Directors (training is essential)
  5. Develop Bylaws
  6. Start receiving funds and serving the public.
  7. File for 501 (c)(3) ¾download form 1023 http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1023.pdf
    1. You have 15 months to file from the filing of articles of incorporation. IRS is currently giving a 12 month extension if needed.
    2. Determine if you need assistance or should you hire a CPA or consultant.
